The Outnet moves to reassure customers after site crashes

The Outnet has issued a statement after its website crashed on Friday.

The site crashed following the huge surge in traffic to its £1 designer sale- leaving many customers annoyed and upset.

The online world has been awash with tweets, blog posts and comments on the whole experience.

The Outnet director Stephanie Phair says:

“I wanted to personally say that we have been listening to all your comments. First and most importantly, I want to say sorry for the frustrating experience that many of you had. You have shown incredible interest in our site and we do not take that lightly.

“Clearly, while we were prepared for the volume of traffic the sale would deliver, in some markets, the UK mainly, we were overwhelmed by the speed at which you came to the site. This remarkable volume –up to 9 orders a second – led the site to crash for many of you, and I want to say that we are very sorry to all those who didn’t get to buy anything at the sale, but delighted for the thousands of lucky ones amongst you that did walk away with a £1/$1 bargain from theOutnet.

“We want to thank all of you for being part of our first year celebrations. With each event we are working hard to fix issues that arise, and want to say that we fully intend to offer you further bargain shopping opportunities in the future. Thank you again, Stephanie.”

Did any of you have problems getting on the site..? Did you manage to buy anything?

I tried in vain to get on for about 3 hours, when I eventually did everything had sold out..gutted! It was frustrating, but I think The Outnet had a genuinely unprecedented level of visitors and the website just wasn’t geared up for that level of traffic..9 orders a second!

Matthew Williamson- here comes the sun!

As the beautiful sunshine beats down outside (yey-it’s finally spring!), thought I’d pay homage to Matthew Williamson- the Brit fashion designer who perfectly captures the free-spirit of summer.

Matthew Williamson’s fun, colourful collections are inspired by global travel and his signature looks combine luxury with bohemian style.

I love his laissez-faire attitude to fashion- he doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously and his designs are beautiful but wearable.

You can imagine his clothing on the beaches of Ibiza or partying the night away in St.Tropez. I’m off to Ibiza and St.Tropez this summer, already planning my outfits-can’t wait!

You can pick up these stunning Matthew Williamson pieces (above) at The Outnet, all with huge discounts.

What do you think…if you could only wear one designer ever again who would it be, and why?

What to wear on a hot date..?

So, he’s called and said ‘I’ll pick you up at 8, wear something nice’ – what’s it to be?

Ahh..what to wear?? For a first date it needs to be sexy but elegant…not flashy.

I love, love this silk-chiffon Alberta Ferretti dress at The Outnet , a perfect mix of key spring/summer trends with pastel colour tones and draping. Pretty with a flirtatious edge.

Team it with a pair of black, patent Oscar de la Renta sandals and a Vanessa Bruno small leather clutch for that sexy nod.

The Outnet celebrates first birthday with £1 designer sale

Yes, it sounds too good to be true- designer clothes for just £1..but it’s no joke.

Before you do anything else, put April 16 in your diary!

The Outnet, Net-a-porter’s spin-off discount site- the self-styled ‘home of chic-onomics’, is launching a £1 pop-up sale for one-day only.

Thousands of items including ready-to-wear clothing, bags, shoes and accessories from over 200 designer brands will be available for just $1/£1/€1 while stocks last…I doubt for long!

If that’s not enough, there will also be a ‘golden ticket’ – selected at random from those that have RSVP’d – which will allow one lucky person the chance to preview and shop the sale before anyone else. The winner will work with an Outnet.com stylist to pick a fabulous outfit – five pieces – for the grand total of $5/£5/€5!

So, what would Fashionbite wear to The Outnet’s first birthday bash?

I would raid The Outnet and rock up in this fab Preen veronica silk dress, with 50% off at £480, accessorised with a Thomas Wylde suede clutch, down 60% to £394 and finished off with these stunning peep-toe Halston boots, down 70% to £492.

Paul and Joe launches EXCLUSIVE collection for The Outnet

Paris-based designer Paul and Joe has created an exclusive collection for TheOutnet.com, Net-a-Porter’s spin-off discount site, which is due to launch December 1. The limited edition capsule collection will showcase 30 styles, ranging from £85 to £250, a fraction of the cost of its mainline range.

The Outnet, in case you haven’t come across it, is the bargain hungry fashionista’s dream site. It sells previous season stock from all the top designer brands at massive discounts! Earlier this year, I interviewed incoming director Stephanie Phair about her new role as head of The Outnet, just as it was launching. She was an impressive lady, with a CV that spanned 10 years in fashion, including a stint on US Vogue under the guise of Anna Wintour.

One of the key questions I asked was how Net-a-porter would ensure both brands were kept separate, so The Outnet could flourish in itself rather than becoming a clearance site for Net-a-Porter’s excess stock. Along with having brands which are solely stocked on The Outnet, Phair said she would look to introduce designer collaborations, exclusive to the site, which would be in keeping with their lower price points.

I’m hoping the launch of Paul and Joe for The Outnet will be one of many designer collaborations we’ll be seeing in the years to come…..so watch this space!
