Bank: for fabulous fashion online

FASHIONBITE PROMOTION

Bank online for fashion

Why do we love shopping online so much..?

Busy shopping centres, lack of parking, stock running out, not having your size…sound all too familiar?

Life is busier now (more than ever!) and finding time to shop in between work and family life is tough.

The beauty of the internet is shopping is no longer restricted to the high street or shopping centres and it’s 24/7, so fits in with your schedule.

After a hard day, relax with a glass of wine and browse some online fashion stores for women’s clothing…what better way to spend an evening?

Whether it’s a fab playsuit, glam maxi-dress or strappy sandals you’re after, Bank has a huge array on offer. Visit their website at www.bankfashion.co.uk.

Plus-size online at Simply Be

FASHIONBITE PROMOTION

Simply Be, for all your plus-size needs

Plus-size shopping can be stressful at the best of times, particularly having to trudge round the shops trying to find a range that fits.

Many places still think ‘plus-size’ means 6 foot tall and the same patterns are used to cut plus-size clothing as slim cut, just enlarged. This not only makes the waist and bottom area larger but the legs and arms longer too, so trousers or skirts often need to be taken up after they’ve been purchased.

Some shops think that plus-size means having no shape, so clothes are cut in unflattering ways to hide the figure.

Thankfully there are now stores where the more curvaceous can shop and actually find something fashionable that they’d like to be seen in…and there’s no need to face the queues!

Online stores are selling jeans that flatter, plus-size dresses with feminine frills and t-shirts with shape. Some online stores are even tackling the bane of every woman’s life – swimwear. With swimwear cut more generously, you can now feel more comfortable than ever at the pool or beach.

So, why not make all these purchases from the comfort of your own home?

Simply Be specialises in plus-size clothing online, so you know you’re shopping with the experts. Visit their website at www.simplybe.co.uk.

Oxfam launches UK’s first online vintage charity shop

I’m so excited…Oxfam is launching the UK’s first ever online vintage charity shop tomorrow and Fashionbite has had a sneak preview.

The new store will stock the biggest selection of vintage clothing anywhere online, with thousands of items sourced from Oxfam shops and boutiques across the country, such as a 1950′s leather clasp handbag or a floral 1970′s maxi dress.

It will allow you to rummage for those fab vintage finds from the comfort of your own home…perfect.

Featuring as a new area on Oxfam’s homepage, under the heading vintage, you’ll be able to access the site at www.oxfam.org.uk/vintage from tomorrow.

What I love about the new site is you can also shop by decade, ranging from the ’50′s to the ’80′s. When you click on the decade you are taken to an introduction page about the era, including key looks and styles. It’s also great that the Oxfam team will scour the country for the best vintage pieces to put up online. It can sometimes be a bit hit and miss with stores, depending on which one you go to.

The new vintage site will also feature regular blogs, advice and inspiration from Oxfam’s guest style gurus. The panel of experts includes Whistles CEO, Jane Shepherdson; BBC vintage expert, Katherine Higgins; fashion author, Christa Weil; ethical stylist, Lupe Castro; Trendstop CEO, Jaana Jatyri and stylist to the stars, Fee Doran.

From insider tips on identifying valuable items to advice on customising or caring for vintage finds, the site will be the essential go-to for anyone that loves vintage fashion.

Oxfam’s head of retail Sarah Farquhar says: “Oxfam has been the face of vintage style on Britain’s high streets for over 60 years. We’ve seen enthusiasm for unique second-hand and retro fashion boom over the last few years, and now it’s not unusual for A-list stars to walk the red carpet in vintage Oxfam gowns instead of the latest designer items.

“The beauty of fashion is that it can be recycled and reused again and again.”

This is a brilliant idea by Oxfam and building on the strengths it is known for.

Also, great for vintage lovers out there who can now shop with a conscience by donating to charity at the same time..!

2010- what the future holds…?

So…tomorrow heralds the start of a new decade, new techonologies, new websites, new designers, new beauty launches…!

….But what I find really interesting 10 years from now- how will we all digest the news?

Will newspapers/magazines still exist? Will everything be online? Will news bulletins be confined to 140 characters on twitter? What will be the facebook/twitter of the ‘teenies,’…if we’re calling it that?? Will all content online be paid for?

Ummm…we were told we’d all be flying around on space cars at the end of this decade..so not all predictions come true!

My thoughts are…Amazon’s e-reader will become as mainstream as mobiles and the ‘old-fashioned’ newspaper will be archived to the museum, with people questioning how we got by reading the news daily, rather than up to the second? We’ll all be downloading the ‘online newspaper’ which will fit our exact requirements, only paying for what we read e.g. sport and news, or business and comment. Some form of paper news could still exist, but it will be in the form of free newspapers, supporting the online brand where all the content is paid for.

So, what does this mean for online fashion/beauty firms?

I think, if it’s not already, online will become the brand’s flagship store. Shops will still exist, but as a marketing/advertising tool for the brand. Firms will showcase their product in store, but purchasing will be done online at in-store computers (or at home) and retail stores will become the pick-up point for online purchases.

The last 10 years has brought us some groundbreaking online fashion firms, such as Net-a-porter and Asos, which have changed the way we shop for fashion- bringing shopping online for clothes mainstream.

What will the next 10 years bring??

Whatever happens, they’ll be plenty to write about! So, keep posted for all the latest online fashion/beauty news, website launches and fab product reviews of the next decade.

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year, whatever you’re doing. See you in 2010!

Future face of online?

gemstaI’m off to preview a new website which is due to launch in the UK on Friday (and the US next year). It’s being hailed as ‘the future face of internet shopping,’ and from looking at the demo sites..I can definitely see why! The site is called Gemsta.com, you can have a look for yourselves at www.gemsta.com. The website is a 3D, virtual search and shopping destination-it looks incredible and will revolutionise the way we shop online! It’s like being in a computer game and shopping on a virtual high street…fantastic for the xbox/playstation generation!

The site consists of 4 islands, based on real world places. The first island is for shoppping, the second travel, the third entertainment and the fourth discovery..there is even a Monaco race track where you can test drive cars! The shopping island has over 500 brands, including all your high street favourites such as Marks and Spencer, Kurt Geiger, Coast, Austin Reed, Office and John Lewis, located in 50 shopping malls on the island. You can meander along the streets and sunny plazas all day to shop for items..the benefit of it never raining!

I’ll be writing a detailed review of Gemsta and who’s behind the launch on tomorrow’s fashionbite…so keep posted!
