FashionBite wins Next Styling Challenge

Next Styling DayNext Styling DayNext Styling DayNext Styling DayNext Styling DayNext Styling DayNext Styling DayNext Styling DayNext Styling DayNext Styling DayNext rolled out the red carpet for fashion/style bloggers today and treated us to a day of champagne, styling and a look at their spring/summer collections and the inspiration behind them.

Next also challenged bloggers to style a look based around one key piece chosen by them. I was given a lace t-shirt top and I created an off duty festival look (see first pic). I won the challenge (along with 4 other bloggers) and we’ll get our looks shot on models and sent out to Next’s online subscribers in a few weeks time.

Bloggers pictured (image 7)  include the lovely Elizabeth from Thrills and Frills and Kristabel from I Want You To Know. I also had a great time with the gorgeous Jazmine from Jazzabelle’s Diary.

Next’s buyers and marketing director Christine also ran through the trends/stories for next season. Next will be sporting 6 key stories but is looking to add to the collections throughout the season.

Story 1: PAINTBALL

This collection consists of vibrant colours- reds/blues, block stripes on jerseywear, colour blocking and a ’70′s Miu Miu feel. A tie-front top will be a key shape, along with wide leg trousers.

Story 2: WHITE HEAT

White, white and more white. I loved this collection. Crochet edging, smocking detail, a wider ’70′s feel, lace trims and a real attention to detail. Next will be merchandising the white collection together in store, the first time it’s put one colour all in one block, so it should look visually v.strong.

Story 3: LAUREL CANYON

Fringing, crochet, this is a more relaxed smart/casual collection. Blue/orange/ginger are key colours. Soft denim, wide leg trousers, long boyfriend blazers and cape shapes. I loved the burnt/rusty colours in this collection, I think they’ll make great transitional colours.

Story 4: LOCKER ROOM

This story took inspiration from off duty models at Paris Fashion Week, low-key sweatpants embellished with sequins, stripy blazers and lace.

Story 5: ’70′S ST TROPEZ

Buyers went to India for fabrics, the collection is a formal story but with a more relaxed feel. Pleated skirts, shorts, wide leg trousers, silk blouses and fab attention to detail on fabrics.

Story 6: HOT SPOT GARDEN PARTY

Neon colours, simply brights, prints. Lace, sleeveless shirts and jumpsuits.

Next’s hot, new ad campaign launches Friday

Fashionbite has had a sneak preview of Next’s sexy new spring/summer ad campaign, which launches on TV/online this Friday.

This advert is hot!

Shot by well-known fashion photographer Ben Watts (in his first time doing a short film) the narrative follows supermodels Emanuela De Paula and Amy Hixson on a road trip from West Hollywood, taking them along America’s iconic Route 66.

An upbeat Dandy Warhols soundtrack provides the perfect backdrop to the dazzling sunshine and fun, care-free attitude of the ad.

The clothes look stunning- heaps of vibrant colour, Emanuela opens wearing a striking, canary yellow dress- along with bright, floral prints, distressed denim and some fabulous bikinis!

If Next wants to show off the fashionability of its new ranges- this advert really hits the spot!

Along the way, the girls play road-tag with a group of cool guys on vintage motorbikes, including hot actor/models Nathan Bogle, Din Yates and Jon Kortajarena.

The advert closes in a house in the Mojave desert. A pool party is being hosted by top west coast DJ Zen Freeman and the sun sets on the impossibly stunning group as they party the night away…

This advert screams hot, summer days and it’s one of Next’s best to date.

Be warned though- you’ll be dying to go on holiday after seeing it…!

Tesco v Next…?

tesco 2So, exciting news for all you online bargain hunters out there..Britain’s biggest supermarket Tesco has launched a fashion website. You can check it out for yourselves at www.clothingatTesco.com

Thought I’d have a little nose around and give you my thoughts. I like the layout- it’s simple, clear and easy to navigate..but there’s something slightly familiar about it..oh yes, Next! Have a peek at Next’s online fashion website www.next.co.uk, there is more than just a pasing resemblance! Tesco hasn’t opted for its red/blue branding then..in fact the only things that really mark it out as Tesco are the name and ‘every little helps’ logo at the bottom.

However, that’s where similarities between Tesco/Next end. Next has really ramped up the fashionability of its ranges in recent months and the brand is looking good.  I also like the way it has stamped its mark on the fashion world with a series of ad campaigns that are sexy, aspirational and clearly identifiable as Next.

Anyway, back to Tesco…

Tesco has chosen not to display clothing on models and the site is fairly functional..no catwalks and pumping music..I don’t think Asos will be quaking in its boots just yet! As yet, there aren’t really any big fashion brands on board- mainly sportswear brands such as Adidas and Nike, alongside Tesco’s own label fashion brands..but I’m sure the mighty pulling power of Tesco will attract many more in the  years to come. I think it’s fantastic news for Tesco shoppers who aren’t anywhere near a Tesco Extra store..but does it have fashion credibility? I think it’s got a way to go..but it’s offering customers the option to buy value clothing online..which is more than we can say for Primark!
