The Outnet celebrates first birthday with £1 designer sale

Yes, it sounds too good to be true- designer clothes for just £1..but it’s no joke.

Before you do anything else, put April 16 in your diary!

The Outnet, Net-a-porter’s spin-off discount site- the self-styled ‘home of chic-onomics’, is launching a £1 pop-up sale for one-day only.

Thousands of items including ready-to-wear clothing, bags, shoes and accessories from over 200 designer brands will be available for just $1/£1/€1 while stocks last…I doubt for long!

To gain entry to the hottest designer sale this year- simply register at www.theoutnet.com and RSVP between now and April 11th.

If that’s not enough, there will also be a ‘golden ticket’ – selected at random from those that have RSVP’d – which will allow one lucky person the chance to preview and shop the sale before anyone else. The winner will work with an Outnet.com stylist to pick a fabulous outfit – five pieces – for the grand total of $5/£5/€5!

So, what would Fashionbite wear to The Outnet’s first birthday bash?

I would raid The Outnet and rock up in this fab Preen veronica silk dress, with 50% off at £480, accessorised with a Thomas Wylde suede clutch, down 60% to £394 and finished off with these stunning peep-toe Halston boots, down 70% to £492.

So, get your skates on and register at www.theoutnet.com/birthday…can’t wait!

UPDATE: Asos opens its doors to fashion bloggers

Asos opened its doors to fashion bloggers for the first time last night with an amazing night of clothes, catwalks and champagne.

The online fashion giant showcased some of its fabulous spring/summer ’10 offer and fashion bloggers were able to try the pieces on, have photos taken and strut down the famous Asos catwalk. This is my attempt in a gorgeous maxidress, huge 6 inch peep toe ankle boots and some high summer sunnies.

There were also make-up artists and hair stylists on hand to try out some of the cool beauty brands on offer. A brilliant, bright pink lipgloss by Illamasqua was in the goodie bag (love it!), along with a chunky silver necklace and Asos vouchers.

It felt like I’d stumbled into a huge wardrobe full of dressing-up clothes, but new season! It was so much fun and the Asos staff are so lovely, friendly and welcoming.

Asos is always 10 steps ahead of the game and last night was another example. The only problem, I now have a summer wish-list as long as my arm…better start saving!

ASOS: Opens its doors to bloggers

I’m heading to an Asos: Access All Areas event tonight at their head office in North London…can’t wait!

The online fashion giant is kindly opening its doors to a select few of us to browse their new spring/summer ’10 collection and try on our favourite pieces, accompanied by a glass of bubbly of course! We’ll also get the chance to strut our stuff on the famous Asos runway..hopefully not too tipsy -so we won’t be copying the Agyness tumble (below) at the Fashion for Relief Haiiti event last month.

I’ll update later with all the pics and goss from the night…

BLOGGER NEWS: Facehunter launches style book

Yvan Rodic, the man behind much-loved style blog Facehunter, has launched a book compiling some of the amazing shots he’s taken of street style from across the world.

The book features over 300 colour pics of ordinary people with fabulous style, a fantastic coffee table read and something you can really dip into. I found myself gazing at each image for a long time, as Yvan rightly, says each picture tells a story.

Yvan’s blog, which he calls ‘eye candy for the syle hungry’ is a pictorial reference of his encounters with people from all over the world- well worth reading if you’re into fashion and style.

Yvan even says in the book “I know designers at Dior who check my blog because they don’t have time to go out onthe street.”

However, he says Facehunter is less about fashion and more about style. “You can’t seduce me with an It-bag,” he says.

In the book, Yvan says: “We’ve reached a point where there’s no more top-tier and bottom-rung, no more ‘high fashion vs. high street’. Instead of following trends, people prefer to set their own. They’ve come to expect more from fashion than a list of orders to be obeyed.”

Facehunter by Yvan Rodic will go on sale March 15, published by Thames & Hudson, £14.95 hardback.

If you’re in London this Friday 12 and fancy meeting the man behind the camera, he’s having an official signing at Foyles, Charing Cross at 5 pm.

PARIS: A guide to the hidden gems

With Paris Fashion Week still in full swing, you might be lusting after after a mini-break to Paris..I know I am!

I absolutely love the city, I was there last year on a press trip with Vente-Privee, see Fashionbite’s post Vente-Privee in Paris and had such a brilliant time.

What makes Paris so fabulous is all its gorgeous little back street boutiques and bijou haunts.

Air France has compiled a list of the must-see boutiques when vitising the capital and I’ve rounded up the best of the best. All you need now is to book the trip!

MUST-SEE FOR VINTAGE – La Belle Époque

The Marais’ La Belle Époque Vintage (above) has one main draw – the owner. Fashion designers and editors flock to the boutique of theatrical costumier Philippe for his keen eye and impressive knowledge. You’ll find everything from Yves Saint Laurent ensembles to a selection of inexpensive ’70s shirts and fake fur coats.

La Belle Epoque, 10 Rue de Poitou, 3rd. Métro St Sébastien Froissart

MUST-SEE FOR BOUTIQUES – Maureen Vinot

Away from the main boulevards, you’ll find young upcoming designers selling directly from their workshops, and the talented Maureen Vinot is no exception. Drawing her inspiration from fairytales and legends, her clothing and accessories are made by hand in limited numbers so you’ll find something totally original.

Maureen Vinot, 2 Rue Auguste Barbier, 11th. Metro Goncourt, www.maureenlesite.com

The affordable way to fill your wardrobe with cutting edge fashion.

André, 106, Rue de Rivoli, 1st. Metro Châtelet, www.andre.fr

MUST-SEE FOR SHOES – Laurence Dacade

Laurence is undoubtedly a shoe designer after my own heart. As well as designing for the likes of Chanel, Givenchy, Christian Lacroix and Karl Lagerfield, her own collection is as diverse as it is beautiful. From gorgeous flat leather sandals to metallic heels and studded leather ankle boots – you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Oscar dresses: who will we copy this year..?

Another fabulous year at the Oscars last night, with stars pulling out all the stops in a stunning array of dresses.

Cameron Diaz dazzled in Oscar de la Renta, vintage glamour accessorised with ruby red lips. I really love her look.

Jennifer Lopez struck gold with a sculptural Armani Privé gown. I like the minimal, simplicity of the dress.

Kristen Stewart looked almost unrecognisable in a sweeping midnight blue Monique Lhuillier gown. The colour is so rich and looks great with her hair and skin tone.

Sarah Jessica Parker channeled Carrie in pale yellow Chanel Haute Couture, complete with a stack of bangles- chic yet modern.

Best Actress winner Sandra Bullock looked gorgeous in a metallic Marchesa gown, it isn’t my favourite outfit, but she looks amazing.

So, who will be the big one to copy this year…?

An article in The Sunday Times yesterday claimed that copycat Oscar dresses would go on sale within a week.

Designers are apparently under pressure to send their new designs, ‘inspired’ by Oscar dresses, to manufacturers around the world by 5.30 am this morning, so the knock-off industry can churn into action to produce replica versions at lighting speed. Sandra is one of the actresses tipped to inspire a copycat frenzy.

Haute Couture houses. such as Chanel and Valentino, are up in arms about the sale of these cut-price knock-offs, saying they will take “vigourous measures” against them. Understandably, they’re annoyed- but I if I was karl Largerfeld I wouldn’t be quaking in my boots just yet, I doubt the Chanel customer would be seen dead in a 200 quid knock-off version.

It will be interesting to see which Oscar dresses get the knock-off vote though. My personal favourite is Cameron Diaz…

Ebay to launch new fashion site

Ebay.co.uk is launching a new fashion sub site, fashion.ebay.co.uk, in the next few months.

Speaking at Retail Week’s conference this week, Ebay UK managing director Mark Lewis said the site will focus on sellers offering branded fashion in volume. However, he didn’t specify which type of brands.

The idea behind it is to offer Ebay customers a more targeted user experience.

Mark said: “a 30-year old guy buying a DVD player has completely different needs than a 20-year-old woman looking for an outfit for a night out.”

Details of the venture are quite skeletal, but it sounds interesting- although it really depends on what brands are on offer. If it’s for sellers to shift mass market sportswear brands in volume, I wouldn’t call it a specialist fashion site.

Amazon launched a footwear/accessories website in the UK called Javari at the end of last year, see fashionbite’s post Amazon Strikesd Again, so Ebay could be jumping on a similar bandwagon? Watch this space.

Very, very excited!! French designer Sonia Rykiel’s second collection for H&M is due to hit stores next Saturday (February 20), brilliantly timed in the midst of London Fashion Week fever.

The designer, famed for her fabulous knitwear, colourful stripes and Parisian-inspired style, has produced a stunning collection which is sure not to disappoint.

Knitted dresses, sweaters and skirts in black, fuscia, pale pink and sunshine yellow will nestle beside gorgeous embellished, dresses, berrets and rhinestone tops- but I doubt for long! I’m already lusting after far too much…

Price points are fantastic, ranging from £7.99 for tights to £34.99 for a striped, knitted sweater dress and £49.99 for a rhinestone embellished dress.

Natalie Rykiel, daughter of Sonia and president/artistic director of the fashion house, said: “The essence of Sonia Rykiel is the Parisian woman of Saint Germain des Pres, the Left Bank or Rive Gauche.

“The idea of the collection is to offer the essence of Sonia Rykiel. This [H&M] line is absolutely true to our philosophy, which is about quality and know-how, and not about money. H&M gave me complete freedom with creation and quality. We used pure wool and pure cotton. It’s the DNA of Rykiel.”

A colour injection is just what every wardrobe needs to freshen it up for spring- so head down to H&M next Saturday to get your hands on a stunning piece of Rykiel.. without the heavy price tags.
