Kate Middleton wedding, FashionBiteSo, after what feels like a very long festive break (but one which also sped by fuelled by large quantities of alcohol and mince pies…I feel 10 stone heavier!), I’m back at home and mulling over the last year and some of the defining fashion moments of 2011. I’ve picked out five, all of which have made an impact for very different reasons… Read more

Summer shopping starts now!

All Saints, FashionBite 2All Saints, FashionBite 2

Summer’s really kicked in and after spending more than 40 minutes this morning rummaging through my wardrobe – dusting off a ripped, pale denim jacket and realising that most of summer wardrobe is completely inappropriate for work –I have now scheduled in an afternoon of summer shopping.

This weather has really taken me my surprise, I normally build on my summer wardrobe throughout the spring months but we’re needing full-on high summer clothing at the start of April (I hope this doesn’t mean it’s going to be freezing in August though!)

All Saints has got a sale on at the moment, until April 12th (in association with Grazia mag). And it’s got some great women’s summer wardrobe staples which are perfect for this weather.

I like this cream Kensington short with Kasha trousers for work. Or for an off duty, slouchy weekend look, team this plume boyfriend cardi with a stencil vest, faded turn-up jeans and sandy, alpine bunker boots.

I’ve scheduled in my summer wardrobe blitz for Monday afternoon..I’ll let you know how I go!

Designer Olivia Rubin talks to FashionBite

What was the inspiration for your AW11 collection (pictured above)?
For autumn/winter, the Olivia Rubin woman transforms into a ‘femme fatale’. I wanted to create a more sophisticated look with an added hint of youth grunge. I was inspired by women now and the empowerment of the 90’s, ultimately a woman that feels both sexy and confident.

How has the collection evolved from your SS11 offer?
Summer and winter both have a very different mood for me and I try and reflect this in the collections. SS11 was all about fun and fresh looks for an everyday girl whereas AW11 has more serious overtones for a glamorous independent woman. It’s almost like there has been a transition from girl to ‘femme fatale’ from spring/summer to autumn/winter.

Where do you find inspiration for each collection?
I get inspiration from all sources especially the creative arts. For AW11 I looked to early 90’s film and music videos and combined this with some new silhouettes and prints that I’d had in my mind for a while. I had the idea of a sexy ‘femme’ in my mind and grew the collection around this image.

Can you describe a few of the key pieces from the AW11 collection?
Charlotte – A long monochrome print column dress with a contrasting draped top-instant chic appeal!
Holly – A 3D brick print sheer shirt with lace detailing-sexy with a grunge element.
Sophie Speech Bubble – A knitwear sweater (part of the new knitwear line) with a graphic speech bubble print all over-classic kitsch!

Who would you love to see wearing your clothing?
I’ve seen some great women in my collections from celebrities to loyal customers and family and friends! Celebrity wise I love Rachel Bilson-the cool laidback look she exudes and also new girl on the block Eliza Doolittle-her playfulness and use of colour.

Describe the Olivia Rubin label in 3 words?
Quirky, feminine and timeless.

You’ve designed capsule collections for ASOS, My-Wardrobe and Very, what’s next for Olivia Rubin?I have my new printed shoe and accessories line for Dune coming out in March, which I’m looking forward to. I’m in the process of working with some other exciting companies for future projects-I think it’s important to collaborate, it keeps the ideas flowing!

Maxi dress- the summer must-have!

The sun’s out, it’s going to be a gorgeous weekend and I don’t know about you but I’m starting to get really excited about the prospect of these long, hot summer days!

I’m actually off on holiday next month with a friend, we’re going to Singapore (staying with her Mum) then heading to Bali/Lombok..any tips welcome!

So, I’m having to plan my summer wardrobe early and the maxi-dress is a key piece. Dress-down with bikini, flats and a beachbag for day or killer heels and chunky accessories for night.

When Asos opened its doors to fashion bloggers recently, check out my blog post- they were also kind enough to give us a £100 voucher in our goodie bags!

I bought this stunning One Teaspoon beaded tie dye maxi dress (above), it looks great with some strappy black wedge ankle boots (also Asos) and a stack of gold bangles. I can’t wait to wear it..not quite warm enough here just yet!

Maxi-dresses are everywhere this summer, you can pick up some fab high street versions at Topshop and Miss Selfridge or if your budget allows, take a look at Net-a-Porter for that designer piece.

Check out this stunning Halston maxi-dress at Net-a-Porter – a great way to channel your inner Carrie pre-SATC 2 next month!

The Outnet celebrates first birthday with £1 designer sale

Yes, it sounds too good to be true- designer clothes for just £1..but it’s no joke.

Before you do anything else, put April 16 in your diary!

The Outnet, Net-a-porter’s spin-off discount site- the self-styled ‘home of chic-onomics’, is launching a £1 pop-up sale for one-day only.

Thousands of items including ready-to-wear clothing, bags, shoes and accessories from over 200 designer brands will be available for just $1/£1/€1 while stocks last…I doubt for long!

To gain entry to the hottest designer sale this year- simply register at www.theoutnet.com and RSVP between now and April 11th.

If that’s not enough, there will also be a ‘golden ticket’ – selected at random from those that have RSVP’d – which will allow one lucky person the chance to preview and shop the sale before anyone else. The winner will work with an Outnet.com stylist to pick a fabulous outfit – five pieces – for the grand total of $5/£5/€5!

So, what would Fashionbite wear to The Outnet’s first birthday bash?

I would raid The Outnet and rock up in this fab Preen veronica silk dress, with 50% off at £480, accessorised with a Thomas Wylde suede clutch, down 60% to £394 and finished off with these stunning peep-toe Halston boots, down 70% to £492.

So, get your skates on and register at www.theoutnet.com/birthday…can’t wait!
