Fashionbite’s pick of the top 5 trends for autumn

If you’re looking to update your wardrobe this autumn, take some of next season’s key looks and make them work for you.

Here are my top 5…

MILITARY

Whistles military jacket, a key look for autumn I’ve got my eye on a military-style jacket for autumn/winter.

Keep the look strong with statement fastenings/buttons and a slim fit.

Whistles has this fab cotton jacket- a perfect transitional piece at £125.

You can buy it online at Whistles or Asos.

GOTH GLAMOUR

Goth glamour inspires autumn/winter at Oasis Goth glamour has inspired the autumn/winter ranges at Oasis and New Look, see Fashionbite’s earlier post Oasis and New Look’s gothic story for autumn ’10.

Autumn will bring you a barrage of lace, from pretty day dresses to sexy transparent gowns and blouses. Tap into this trend with a hint of lace to reveal the dark romantic in you.

COUNTRYSIDE BELLE

Baker boy cap, Marks & SpencerTweed, camel and English heritage are strong influences for autumn/winter.

Chunky coatigans, corduroy and mohair will all bring you bang up to date- why not give a nod to the trend with this tweed chunky knit/wool baker boy cap from Marks & Spencer, just £15.

CAPE CRUSADER

cape cardigan from Asda The cape is a key silouette for next season, pick up this bargain cable knit cape cardigan from George at Asda for just £12.

RETRO CHIC

Vintage 1950's dress from Devoted 2 Vintage Ok, so designers are always looking to the past for inspiration- but it seems they are doing so now more than ever.

Archives and heritage collections are providing the blueprint for many current collections.

Next season, we’re seeing a celebration of the female form with tiny waists, full hips and ample bosoms. Inspired by the 1950′s or the ‘Mad Men effect’, you can buy into this trend with a modern take on the style or by opting for the original if you’re a vintage lover.

Check out online vintage store Devoted2Vintage for some fabulous pieces.

I’m off to St.Tropez for a week today..can’t wait! I’ll be keeping an eye out for key fashion looks on the French Riveria..and hopefully catching some sun!!

Time² host bloggers event to showcase autumn ’10

Emily Seares at the Time2 blogger eventTime 2 blogger eveningTime2, blogger eventTime2 Long Acre store in Covent Garden Last night I headed to the Time² store on Long Acre, in Covent Garden for an evening of champagne, cupcakes and watches.

I have to admit, I don’t know a massive amount about watches so I was intrigued to find out more.

Apparently, ceramic is a big trend for autumn/winter and Burberry are bringing out this fabulous new, ceramic watch (below) with intricate strap detailing which includes the famous Burberry check.Burberry watch, £650 - www.time2.co.uk

The trend for brightly coloured straps will continue (as above top) but we’ll see some sweeter tones, alongside the acid brights.

Similar to fashion, watches are also seeing the trend for brands delving into their archives and drawing inspiration from past collections.

The ’50′s and ’60′s are hugely influential in all the autumn/winter runway collections and we’re seeing a similar trend with watches. Watch brands are also designing new pieces which are made to look like vintage finds.

Time² have just launched their first online store at www.time2.co.uk, so check it out for yourselves.

We were also treated to a lucky dip of watches and I picked out this fab LTD black watch (below)…no excuse for being late now! LTD watch,-www.time2.co.uk

Louis Vuitton’s new autumn/winter ’10 campaign: FIRST LOOK

Louis Vuitton, new ad campaign Marc Jacobs looks to ‘beautiful, ladylike clothes’ for inspiration for Louis Vuitton’s autumn/winter ’10 collection, in contrast to the very bohemian feel of spring/summer- inspired by the New Age traveler.

Marc, Louis Vuitton’s artistic director, says: “The strength of Louis Vuitton is its almost magical ability to reinvent itself every season.”

The new ad campaign, shot in a New York studio by Steven Meisel, brings together three decades of supermodels – Christy Turlington, Karen Elson and Natalia Vodianova.

The set resembles a glamorous movie star’s dressing room (complete with lights around the mirrors!) and shot in soft sepia tones. Models pose in bustiers, fifties knits and sweeping skirts, surrounded by stacks of opened shoe boxes.

The campaign will showcase in the August issues of magazines.

Johnnie B, Boden 1Johnnie B, Boden 3 Johnnie B, Boden 4 I’m loving Boden’s younger sub-brand Johnnie B, which launched earlier this year.

Urban Outfitters- strong Russian story for autumn ’10

Urban Outfitters channels the ‘Russian Delinquent’ for autumn/winter ’10- with an electic blend of abstract graphic/paisley and animal prints, along with fair isle knits and faux fur hats/accessories.

Layering is key- slouchy tops are teamed with skinny panelled jeans. The maxidress is still big for autumn/winter, but worn with a rock edge- black lace embellishment, vintage DM’s, bright red lipstick and metallic nails.

In addition, New Look heads to the slopes for winter ’10 with its collection of Alpine-inspired fair isle knits in womenswear, accessories and menswear, complemented with yeti-style faux fur boots and nordic prints.
