Asos to launch new Ebay-style marketplace

asos to launch ebay-style marketplace Asos is launching a new Ebay-style marketplace later this year.

Customers and small, independent retailers will be able to sell their clothing via the new area, which will be fixed-price rather than auction-based. Asos will also offer customers advice on how best to display their products.

It’s a brilliant idea. When searching for anything clothing-related on Ebay it’s always presented in such an unfashionable way- I find it difficult to see past that. It will be great for both buyers and sellers to be associated with Asos.

I wonder how Asos will vet who sells on the new space though- will it be open to anyone/anything fashion-related…?? Asos has said it will offer advice, but will that be mandatory for every seller? Surely they wouldn’t want to put their name to a new area which has loads of crappy-looking pictures…?

Maxi dress- the summer must-have!

The sun’s out, it’s going to be a gorgeous weekend and I don’t know about you but I’m starting to get really excited about the prospect of these long, hot summer days!

I’m actually off on holiday next month with a friend, we’re going to Singapore (staying with her Mum) then heading to Bali/Lombok..any tips welcome!

So, I’m having to plan my summer wardrobe early and the maxi-dress is a key piece. Dress-down with bikini, flats and a beachbag for day or killer heels and chunky accessories for night.

When Asos opened its doors to fashion bloggers recently, check out my blog post- they were also kind enough to give us a £100 voucher in our goodie bags!

I bought this stunning One Teaspoon beaded tie dye maxi dress (above), it looks great with some strappy black wedge ankle boots (also Asos) and a stack of gold bangles. I can’t wait to wear it..not quite warm enough here just yet!

Maxi-dresses are everywhere this summer, you can pick up some fab high street versions at Topshop and Miss Selfridge or if your budget allows, take a look at Net-a-Porter for that designer piece.

Check out this stunning Halston maxi-dress at Net-a-Porter – a great way to channel your inner Carrie pre-SATC 2 next month!

UPDATE: Asos opens its doors to fashion bloggers

Asos opened its doors to fashion bloggers for the first time last night with an amazing night of clothes, catwalks and champagne.

The online fashion giant showcased some of its fabulous spring/summer ’10 offer and fashion bloggers were able to try the pieces on, have photos taken and strut down the famous Asos catwalk. This is my attempt in a gorgeous maxidress, huge 6 inch peep toe ankle boots and some high summer sunnies.

There were also make-up artists and hair stylists on hand to try out some of the cool beauty brands on offer. A brilliant, bright pink lipgloss by Illamasqua was in the goodie bag (love it!), along with a chunky silver necklace and Asos vouchers.

It felt like I’d stumbled into a huge wardrobe full of dressing-up clothes, but new season! It was so much fun and the Asos staff are so lovely, friendly and welcoming.

Asos is always 10 steps ahead of the game and last night was another example. The only problem, I now have a summer wish-list as long as my arm…better start saving!

ASOS: Opens its doors to bloggers

I’m heading to an Asos: Access All Areas event tonight at their head office in North London…can’t wait!

The online fashion giant is kindly opening its doors to a select few of us to browse their new spring/summer ’10 collection and try on our favourite pieces, accompanied by a glass of bubbly of course! We’ll also get the chance to strut our stuff on the famous Asos runway..hopefully not too tipsy -so we won’t be copying the Agyness tumble (below) at the Fashion for Relief Haiiti event last month.

I’ll update later with all the pics and goss from the night…

Asos launches Africa collection

Asos has launched a new capsule collection called Asos Africa, designed, sourced and produced in collaboration with several small communities in Africa.

Contemporary silhouettes including jumpsuits, playsuits, blazers and cropped trousers are re-worked using African Kanga’s – the vivid printed cottons traditionally worn by men and women throughout Eastern Africa.

Organic cotton cutwork-detail tees and vests are embellished with heavy brass beading whilst tunics and tops are hand- crocheted with loving care. Hand beaded leather sandals, belts and woven raffia baskets finish the look.

Each piece comes packaged in its own pouch made from Kanga fabric with a handmade coconut button fastening.

Asos buying director Caren Downie said: “On our continuing quest to find new inspiration, we recently spent time in Africa working with artisans and small producer groups. The vibrancy of the continent inspired us to create the ‘Asos Africa’ collection with the aim of supporting trade in Africa.”

Clothing prices range from £15 to £75 and accessories from £18 to £32.

The collection is part of The Green Room, a new area on Asos’ website which promotes people and the planet.

The Laden Showroom to launch etail site

The Laden Showroom, home to young, independent fashion designers in the heart of East london, is set to launch a standalone website on February 22.

The iconic destination store, located at 103 Brick Lane, features over 65 young designers and is definitely worth a vist if you’re in London. Described by Time Out Magazine as “a font of experimental design” while the London Evening Standard called it a “cult store”, the shop is a creative hub of fresh design talent.

If you’re into your niche labels and love rummaging around for new designers, The Laden Showroom is the store for you.

So, good news- the showroom is launching its first website at the end of this month and you’ll be able to get your hands on all those fabulous labels wherever you are.

The Laden Showroom already has an online presence at Asos, selling a selection of designers such as Bonnie, Chandelier, Pixie and Ruby Rocks. But this is the first time it will have its own site….can’t wait!

Asos: key looks for spring/summer

Asos is launching in an explosion of contrast for spring/summer, with wild prints juxtaposed against tailored elegance.

Fashionbite has posted Asos ‘behind the scenes’ for The Online Fashion Agency, but for an extended pic version of spring/summer looks, see below…

For statement appeal, inspiration comes from East and West Africa- with tribal prints and bejewelled necklines.

Softer style 60’s and 70’s bohemia has been reworked with a hint of the Orient using floral prints and dip dye.

The Asos Black collection, a limited edition range of party pieces, draws on fantasy and fairytale in an abundance of ruffles, lace and chiffon.

Acessories are big and ballsy, definite statement pieces…..

Wedges, killer heels and studding are strong in footwear…
