Burberry to screen live 3D show at London Fashion Week

Iconic British brand Burberry will become the first major design house to screen a catwalk show live, 3D (and around the world!) at London Fashion Week this season (February 19-24).

Burberry will stream its show to screens at parties in New York, Paris, Dubai, Tokyo and Los Angeles, according to The Evening Standard.

In an unprecented move, London Fashion Week is to become the first event to be broadcast in 3D live around the world and could set a benchmark for seasons (and events) to come.

Guests wearing 3D glasses will be able to see the texture of fabrics in great detail- as if they were on the front row of the catwalk.

Burberry’s chief creative officer Christopher Bailey said: “We are very excited we are hosting the first ever truly global fashion show. This unprecedented event will enable people to experience the energy and atmosphere of this show from around the world.

“3D techonology will bring our global audience into the London show space allowing them to see the colours and fabrics, to hear the music and to be a part of the moment when it all finally comes together.”

Before you get too excited though, London Fashion Week hasn’t suddenly become democratic overnight… the 3D parties are invite only.

However, the British Fashion Council (which organises London Fashion Week) announced last week that it is to stream live shows in 2D via the London Fashion Week website during the event…so you can still get a sneak preview of the trends to come for autumn/winter.

Fashionbite has an exciting announcement about London Fashion Week this week… so keep posted for the news!

Gemsta unveiled..

Gemsta 1Gemsta 2Gemsta 3gemsta 4gemsta 5gemsta 6gemsta 7gemsta 8 www.gemsta.com is visually fascinating. Whether you love it or loathe it, it’s certainly pioneering a new way to shop online. However, not just a shopping site..it’s also a 3D search destination with links to Google, Yahoo and pretty much every other search engine out there. You can shop, search, compare..and even send postcards to friends from the different islands! The company hopes in the future that Gemsta will be set as everyone’s homepage..big ambition!

The website will launch this Friday (initially with just the shopping island) in time for the Christmas rush. The other three islands (entertainment, travel and discovery) are scheduled to go live early next year. The shopping island will launch with over 500 retailers, such as French Connection and Kurt Geiger, who are featuring in 50 different 3D shopping environments based on real-life places, such as Sunset Boulevard. Shoppers will be able to amble down the virtual streets, then click on a specific store which will lead them directly to the retailer’s website to buy the product.

Gemsta is the brainchild of Richard Laing and a team of architects from Prime, the architecture and property development firm, who have used their skills in constructing buildings to develop an incredibly advanced 3D search and shopping tool. I could spend hours detailing all the various aspects of the new website…but i’ll leave it to you to discover for yourselves on Friday..let me know your thoughts!

Future face of online?

gemstaI’m off to preview a new website which is due to launch in the UK on Friday (and the US next year). It’s being hailed as ‘the future face of internet shopping,’ and from looking at the demo sites..I can definitely see why! The site is called Gemsta.com, you can have a look for yourselves at www.gemsta.com. The website is a 3D, virtual search and shopping destination-it looks incredible and will revolutionise the way we shop online! It’s like being in a computer game and shopping on a virtual high street…fantastic for the xbox/playstation generation!

The site consists of 4 islands, based on real world places. The first island is for shoppping, the second travel, the third entertainment and the fourth discovery..there is even a Monaco race track where you can test drive cars! The shopping island has over 500 brands, including all your high street favourites such as Marks and Spencer, Kurt Geiger, Coast, Austin Reed, Office and John Lewis, located in 50 shopping malls on the island. You can meander along the streets and sunny plazas all day to shop for items..the benefit of it never raining!

I’ll be writing a detailed review of Gemsta and who’s behind the launch on tomorrow’s fashionbite…so keep posted!
