Last month, we reported the upcoming collaboration of Karl Lagerfeld and Shu Uemura on a make-up range due out this Christmas.
And as if we weren’t excited enough about this year’s potential stocking fillers (please Santa!) SUKL (Shu Uemura Karl Lagerfeld) has really whet our appetites, first with a wonderfully eccentric teaser cartoon introducing the world to “Mon Shu Girl” – the newest player in the world of beauty and the (cartoon) face of the collection.
Teaming what looks like a Chanel school uniform with colour-pop make-up and a chic black bob, Mon Shu Girl is what you get when you blend ‘Japanese pop with Euro Chic’ and was the first hint as to what to expect from this highly anticipated collection.
The second hint was less cryptic with the release of some actual pictures of actual products. The range will feature four lipsticks in Red, Burgundy, Beige and Pink, three nail varnishes in black, red and beige – which come with Mon Shu nail stickers if you’re in a Harijuku kind of mood – a dark purple gel eye liner and two pairs of false lashes – one made of black and red fabric.
If you’re wondering about all the red, Ludovic Engrand, Shu Uemura’s makeup artist, says it’s because Lagerfeld, who has been using Shu Uemura eye shadows to hand colour his designs for years “dreamed of a red eye shadow to make his sketches. So they created it in this palette for him.”
And now he has his red the Chanel designer, pleased with the collection, has said: “I wanted to invent my personal vision of a Japanese manga. An Eastern, perfect, mysterious, modern beauty.”
How do you say ‘excited’ in Japanese?
