Lana Del Rey has unveiled an atmospheric new video for ‘Summertime Sadness’ – the fifth song from her album ‘Born To Die’ to receive a promotional film.
The promo stars Del Rey and actress Jaime King, the wife of the video’s director Kyle Newman. The beautiful pair appear as warring lovers in moments of pure joy and extreme pain.
The video lacks the mastery of the seven minute epic retelling of the JFK assassination starring A$AP Rocky of ‘National Anthem’, but exhibits all the dark, sensual hallmarks we’ve come to expect from a Lana Del Rey promo.
‘Summertime Sadness’ harks back to a by-gone age with the help of sepia tones and instagram-like footage, as rolling landscapes and tumbling waterfalls provide a backdrop to the singer’s tortured lyrics.
The ill-fated pair toy with the notion of suicide after a dispute, one standing on the edge of a high bridge while the other contemplates jumping from a towering valley. The video alarmingly sees Lana fall to her death as a result of her heartache.
Last month, Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky released their duet ‘My Bitch’. The track, which was previously called ‘Ridin”, will feature on the rapper’s debut album ‘Long Live A$AP’, which will be released on September 11.
