On the set of FashionBite’s London 2012 shoot, on location in Hackney, we caught up with make-up artist Mila Victoria to get her top beauty tips for the summer, find out how she created the fabulous make-up for our shoot and discover what’s in her essentials kit…
How have you tried to echo today’s British summer theme in the make-up?
“I went with something fresh and modern. Something not too fussy but very beautiful, I wanted the clothes to be more of a focal.
What’s in your essentials make-up kit for a shoot?
Everything. Concealer – especially for highlighting in spring/summer shoots, I use a little in the inner corners of the eyes and around the nose. Blush! I love blush. Then, if I want to use something on the lips I make sure I have a beautiful vibrant lip tint.
What are the three beauty products you could not live without?
Rosebud lip salve – it’s the best. Number two, Shu Uemera lash curlers – the mini curler is great for curling the outer corners which gives you a better lift, and number three…a blush with gold iridescence. I love Orgasm by Nars but you can also use a regular matte pink blush and layer it with a shimmery gold eye shadow.
You seem like you have a lot of beauty tips, any trade secrets you’ve picked up over the years?
Hidden eye liner! Use an angled brush to put a little black eye liner in between your lashes – not on top. It’s thickening but much more subtle than loading on mascara.
What’s your top beauty look for the summer?
Definitely a bold lip – especially purple, pink and orange. Highlighting the skin is really important for summer too, there are key parts of the face that people forget, like a little over the cupids bow and a little bit of shimmer to thin the bridge of the nose.
And any beauty tips for hot weather?
Carry make up wipes. If you get hot and sticky it’s better to take off make up and reapply. If you layer on more powder it just makes a big mess. In terms of skin-care, less make up is better and remember to keep your skin hydrated with a hydrating serum – Kiehls has a great one.
Can you talk us through how you created the looks for FashionBite’s London 2012 shoot?
I went for the same base and eye on all three girls. We wanted a fresh look so I kept it simple using a concealer by Lise Watier then Touche Éclat and Nars highlighter in Copa Cabana to highlight key features and then a little setting powder (Mac Blotting Powder).
I lined the eyes with Brown Copper eye kohl by Laura Mercier then highlighted using Kitten by Stila and then a mixture of Ghetto by Make Up Store and Bliss by Stila. I used Maybelline Great Lash Mascara on the lashes although a couple of the girls have false lashes too (Holly wears Shu Uemera Luxe Lashes and Victoria wears individual lashes by The Make Up Store). Then I brushed a little brown eye-shadow (Smog by The Make Up Store) over the brows for a softly-contoured look.
On the cheeks I used a mixture of things including Mac’s Cream Colour Bases in Rich Coral and Virgin Isle
Then on the lips I used a different colour on each girl. Holly is wearing Mac Lipstick in Brick-O-La, Victoria is wearing Lipstick by Make Up Store in Malibu and Stacey wears Impassioned by Mac.
