Beauty Look of the Week: Mischa Barton

Mischa Barton does classic glamour at the Serpentine Party

Beauty Reporter: Marianne Gray

Mischa Barton looked amazing when she attended last week’s Serpentine Gallery. Still best known for her role as California girl, Marissa Cooper on cult teen drama The OC, Brit-born Barton effortlessly channeled Hollywood starlet with a touch of grunge for a look that is somehow quintessentially British.

I have always been of the beauty-school of thought that when it comes to make up it’s one or the other: eyes or lips. Mischa’s look strikes the perfect balance keeping eye make-up bold enough for a little drama yet clean and understated leaving her striking red lips to do the talking – pun intended I’m afraid.

What I love most about this look, however, is how seemingly low-maintenance it is. With a light base, a touch of highlighter, and her long hair swept into a low, loose bun, Mischa’s look is fuss-free and perfect for balmy summer evenings when skin feels suffocated and long hair becomes the enemy.

Maybelline, Eye Studio Lasting Drama

I have written before about my love of Mac’s Fluid Line, but Maybelline have a great cheap alternative. Maybelline’s Eye Studio, Lasting Drama Gel Liner (£7.99) doesn’t quite have the staying power of Mac’s supreme Fluid Line, but with its handy little brush means it glides on easily and has a strong colour great for a precise and dramatic flick. Pair it with a set of dark red lips  – I love Topshop’s Lipstick in Mischief (£8).

Finish off with light make-up for a natural complexion – summer in the UK is a far cry from Orange County and no one is buying it!
