Piers Atkinson for ASOS!

Fashion Reporter: Sian O’Donnell

Piers Atkinson, the eccentric, colour-savvy milliner who has dressed the likes of Kate Moss, Anna Dello Russo and Princess Beatrice has finally made it accessible for every household around the country to own one of his zangy creations, thanks to a special collaboration with ASOS – hallelujah!

The collection includes a rainbow delectable feast of giant pom pom headbands, a head full of luscious rose buds, a cutesy love hearts headpiece and a cartoon bobble wonder, all for a staggering £35. It seems strange to think that this British hat designer was once afraid of colour… a phobia neon-worshipper Zandra Rhodes soon fluro-ed out of him.

Launching his first collection in 2008, the Norfolk-born artist has literally set the design stage ‘alight’. Previously collaborating with the likes of Ashish, Noki and Ashley Isham, having a faithful royal following (Dame Shirley Basey) with pieces already included in the V&A’s Hats: an Anthology by Stephen Jones, it seems like a natural progression to take on Ascot in all his vibrancy, irony and complete style overhaul. And what better way to celebrate the tradition of the races than with a Pop-Up Shop at the grand foyer of St. Martins Lane Hotel?

Running until the end of June, here Piers showcases his most recognised masterpieces, including the infamous ‘Anna’ neon headpiece. It is an incredible opportunity for the public to try on and purchase an original headpiece from the man himself. With a wacky bedroom concept as the backdrop, produced by set designer and artistic director, Alun Davies (decorated with My Little Pony dolls and astro turf to emphasise the ‘Ascot’ theme)  and a bespoke wrapping service available on 14th June by the fabulous, Fred Butler - there really is no excuse not to pop in!
