LFW – Day 1 Highlights (Basso & Brooke, Phoebe English and Central St. Martin’s MA Show)
In the afternoon on the first day, I headed to the Jean-Pierre Braganza catwalk show at Somerset House, Basso & Brooke I watched on LFW TV, Phoebe English and Georgia Hardinge I saw at Vauxhall Fashion Scout and then I popped back to Somerset House in the evening to see the Central Saint Martin’s MA show (which was absolutely rammed!)
Highlights from the afternoon included the Basso & Brooke show, which was a beautiful mash-up of contrasting, colourful graphic prints. Bright, fun and bold – the collection featured stunning satchel bags to boot. Long flowing maxi-dresses, softly defined waists and cute pull-up ankle socks gave it a light-hearted, playful feel.
Phoebe English’s AW12 collection featured clean lines, layers of texture and a deviation from her traditional black with striking bubblegum pink towards the end (which I loved!). Phoebe is known for her use of texture and I loved the simple block layering and criss-crossed meshing over pieces. I also loved the gorgeous funky, wedge shoes!
And finally, the Central Saint Martin’s MA show, which was absolutely spectacular. I had a seat but ended up crouched on the floor next to the front row as the venue was totally packed out. When I entered the tent, there were queues around the block with people hoping to get in.
I saw so many designers (it lasted nearly an hour- which in catwalk terms is v.long!), I won’t be reviewing them all but have picked out a couple of highlights.
I loved the first designer, Luke Brooks (aside from the slight mis-hap when a model fell off her shoe then had to limp back down the catwalk) his collection was so exciting – with its paint splattered tunics, mixed textures and statement Olympic-inspired headdress!
I also really loved the collection of Anne Thorbjornsen, which featured draped jersey pieces in a demure palette of grey, accented with bold splashes of bright orange and blue.
Keep posted for Day 2 highlights next…
