AW11 SHOE REPORT: Faux Fur & Shearling at Jane Shilton!

Shearling boot, Jane Shilton, FashionBite ArticleIn the second in a series of interviews, FashionBite chats to Angela Simkins – the footwear designer for contemporary high street brand Jane Shilton – who is passionate about retail having worked in the industry all her life. She talks about the key looks for AW11 and what to look out for next season.

“Faux fur and shearling have been huge influences for the AW11 season in footwear,” Angela says, “and we will see an abundance of this ‘Winter Wonderland’  trend over the coming months”. FashionBite loves these Monza distressed, brown leather ankle boots with shearling trim and lining. I really like the leather, it appears worn and the shearling is so soft.

I also like the fact it has a small heel, if you’re more of a petite size it’s nice to have a bit of height in the shoe! You have to be careful with shearling though not to go overboard; matching a shearling bag, coat and shoes is a definite no no! But a spattering on your shoes is the perfect amount.

If you’re looking for a taller knee-high style; these faux fur lined, buckle biker boots are très cool. Worn with skinny jeans tucked in and an oversized, chunky knit – these boots would make the perfect accompaniment to your outfit on that crisp, winter walk.

In addition to shearling and faux fur, Angela said key colours for the season are rich tans and burgundies, with flashes of purple and grey. Mixed materials of suede and patent also feature, alongside the classic moccasin, brogue and loafer.

Looking to SS12, wedges will be the key heel shape of the season, alongside the fabulous espadrille. Bright colours will mark the start of spring/summer – such as bold fuchsia pinks – as well as key colours including red, white and blue which will correspond with the London Olympics next year!
