Preen to design “directional” range for Aldo
Design duo Preen is set to design a collection for high street footwear brand Aldo. Preen designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi said:“We have just been in Montreal working with their [Aldo's] design team on the initial designs. It’s still in development, but the initial designs are looking very modern and sexy.”
“Aldo really wants this range to be a fantastic high quality, directional product, so they will appeal to the Preen customer,” they told Vogue.co.uk.
In addition, it us understood they will be using some of the designs for their SS12 catwalk show at New York Fashion Week in September. From high street to runway…it’s not normally that way round!
Preen started life as small boutique on the famous Portobello Road, London, in 1996. Now the rock n’roll inspired label is a favourite of the likes of Kate Moss and has shown at international Fashion Weeks, including London Fashion Week.
The design duo use antique fabric such as battered leather, lace, tulle and glazed cotton, mixed with vintage trims and embellishment including old jewellery, buttons…perfect for next season’s mixed texture trend. I can’t wait to see what the footwear/accessories range will look like!
